Katia´s enthusiasm for new music led to her becoming a member of John Mc Laughlin´s group, touring worldwide with his band.Miles Davis immortalized her with two songs on his album You´re Under Arrest. She has also recorded an album with Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea entitled Little Girl Blue (Dreyfus), and an album intitled 'Unspoken' with the Katia Labèque band .

She has now embarked on a number of collaborative projects like 'B for Bang'featuring Beatles music or 'Garden of Evil' on Bernard Herrmann music .

Katia has been scheming for years about starting her very own label with her sister Marielle, KML recordings.This label will be a home to her eclectic musical collaborations as well as a place where musicians she admire will have the freedom to release music they want.

DAVID CHALMIN

Born in Chambéry, France, in 1980, David Chalmin grew up in a strongly musical environment. After five years of piano studies, he began studying the electric guitar at the age of 14. In 2005 he gained an MBA from the French business school ESSEC before fully dedicating his life to music.

Working with several rock and pop bands, he began composing and using electronics in 1999. This led him in 2003 to create and interpret a musical piece for a theatrical lecture based upon Valère Novarina texts. More recently, David has collaborated with the Italian composer Nicola Tescari, working as his assistant and guitarist on the film Texas (Francesco Pasinetti Prize, Venice Film Festival 2005). He has also worked with Maxime Chard-Hutchinson on the alternative score for Antonin Martin-Hilbert's film Léthé.

Since April 2006 David is the guitarist/singer of B for Bang’s Across the Universe Of Languages project, melting music and video in homage to the Beatles. He has composed for the band and co-produced the album together with Katia Labèque and Nicola Tescari. The CD is planned for release in spring 2008 on KML Recordings and features musicians such as Marque Gilmore, Katell Keineg, Meg, Viktoria Mullova, Patti Smith, Giovanni Sollima, etc…

David is a member of the experimental/improvisational/rock noise Dimension X, together with bass player Massimo Pupillo (ZU/Thurston Moore/Mike Patton…) and drummer Chris Corsano (Björk/Paul Flaherty…). The band’s first album has been released in France in June 2007 and will be out worldwide in january 2008. One of the track has already been selected by the british magazine The Wire to be featured on their famous CD Tapper.

NICOLA TESCARI

Dopo essersi diplomato, nel 1989 presso la Civica Scuola di Musica di Milano, ed aver conseguito un Master in Composizione e Direzione d’Orchestra al New England Conservatory di Boston, studiando con alcuni dei più grandi musicisti contemporanei (Luciano Berio, Gyorgi Ligeti, Toru Takemitsu, Franco Donatoni, Eliott Carter), ha seguito dei corsi di perfezionamento In Germania, Francia, Italia e Austria.
Nel 1993 collabora con Silvia Malagugini per l’incisione di Puzzle. Negli anni successivi lavorerà come assistente direttore d’orchestra per John Adams (Rhode Island Philarmonic), Arnold Bosmann e Janos Fürst e finalmente nel 1999 esordisce come direttore d’orchestra egli stesso per “Musica Rara”. Sempre nell’ambito della direzione d’orchestra, nel 2002 viene chiamato a dirigere al Teatro Nazionale di Chaillot la commedia musicale “Concha Bonita”, con musiche di Nicola Piovani e regia di Alfredo Arias.

Già nel 1995 comincerà però a dedicarsi alla composizione scrivendo le musiche per alcune opere teatrali come Heliogabalus, Rebecca e il prete, Salomon Gripp, Totem (di A. Baricco), Le Chant des Paladins, e le colonne sonore di alcuni lavori cinematografici (Vertical city, Il Primo estratto, Gli occhi dell’altro) e film per il piccolo schermo (Gioco perverso, L’amore uccide, Il Signore delle anime, Dopo la sentenza).

Per finire il 2005 ha segnato per lui il raggiungimento di un nuovo traguardo con la realizzazione delle musiche del film Texas, prodotto da Fandango, in concorso alla 62ma Mostra Internazionale d'Arte Cinematografica di Venezia e vincitore del premio della critica Pasinetti. La colonna sonora e’ stata candidata al Ciak d’oro 2006. In campo cinematografico, sono in preparazione i due films “Aspettando il sole”d i Ago Panini e “Francoise Sagan” di Diane Kurys.

Nicola è anche pianista e improvvisatore ed ha suonato con musicsti del calibro di Joe Maneri, John Zorn, Paul Bley, Nathan Mc Bride e Lester Young, .

E’ stato inoltre autore di arrangiamenti musicali per Katia and Marielle Labeque, Marque Gilmore, Trilok Gurtu, Meg, Caparezza, e Viktoria Mullova.In Aprile 2006 svolge il compito di direttore musicale ed arrangiatore dell’evento musicale “Across the Universe” attorno alla musica dei Beatles al Teatro Massimo di Palermo, che lo coinvolge anche come interprete e direttore dell’orchestra e del coro del Teatro Massimo assieme a solisti come le sorelle Labèque, Viktoria Mullova, Giovanni Sollima ,Matthew Garrison, Marco Postinghel, Pascal Moragues e David Chalmin,. Quest’esperienza culminera’ nell’uscita del disco”B for Bang”,in cui partecipano, tra gli altri, Patti Smith, Meg, Katell Keineg, Nadeah e Daniel Day-Lewis.

Dopo avere accompagnato Alessandro Baricco nella Basilica di Massenzio a Roma per il Festival delle Letterature, nel Novembre 2007 collaborera’ con lo scrittore per uno spettacolo su Moby Dick di Melville all Auditorium di Roma nell’ambito di RomaEuropa Festival .

MASSIMO PUPILLO

Massimo Pupillo is a bass player, improviser and composer, born in Rome, Italy .

Since 1991 he’s an active engine of the italian experimental- avant–free music scene.
He s been a member of the well- known experimental collective Gronge untill ‘97 and then with two members of that band started the trio ZU, gaining status of cult band worldwide.
With ZU he released 11 albums ( and lots of singles and compilations) on labels like Chicago’s Atavistic , Holland’s Red Note, french Amanita, San Francisco Frenetic, etc…
The album 'Igneo' (2002) was recorded and produced at Chicago’s Electrical Audio by Steve Albini, (producer – engineer for Nirvana, PJ Harvey, Pixies, Page & Plant, etc... )

He played more than 900 concerts in Europe, East block, Russia, USA, Canada, Asia , Africa, in different contexts like rock, jazz, and contemporary music festivals.
With Zu he's been on tour sharing the stage with such bands as The Melvins, Fantomas, The Ex, Lightning Bolt, Ruins, Dalek, Nomeansno, Vandermark 5, The Thing, etc...
Zu have been in the jazz polls of USA radios as reported by the magazine Jazziz , and in the jazz top 10 of Village Voice (NY) and Musica Jazz (Italy)
Zu collaborates live and in studio with the best musicians of the avantgarde scene, regardless of rock or jazz definitions: Mike Patton, Nobukazu Takemura, Damo Suzuki, Dalek , The Melvins, Mats Gustafsson, Peter Brotzmann, Ken Vandermark, etc

Inizia con lo studio del pianoforte classico, della chitarra, delle percussioni e prosegue la sua formazione integrandola con elettronica, avanguardia rock, rumorismo, improvvisazione,tecnica del suono e videoarte; così nei suoi molteplici progetti dispone di un set polistrumentale riuscendo sia a suonare simultaneamente più strumenti (chitarra e basso, sintetizzatori e pad, cetra e voce ecc…) sia di fare OVER DUB live ossia di registrarsi in tempo reale parti appena suonate, rimandarle in play, processarle e armonizzarle ottenendo cosi la sonorità di una piccolo "ensemble" senza l’aiuto di computer o di sequenze pre-registrate: proprio questa caratteristica gli ha permesso di esibirsi dall’Auditorium al Palladium, da Villa Celimontana a vari Roma Europa Festival e altre manifestazioni nazionali ed internazionali come il festival internazionale del jazz e dell'elettronica a Tel Aviv.

Pubblica sia in Italia che all’estero diversi lavori con etichette indipendenti (Cavage, Idroscalo Dischi, Nocturnal Music, Scene Missing, KML, Zone di Musica, Bar la Muerte, Stirpe 999).
Compone colonne sonore per siti web, eventi cinematografici e teatrali come ad esempio lo spettacolo del 2004 dello scrittore Alessandro Baricco tenutosi al Palladium di Roma, "La città fuori le mura Esplorazioni urbane con gli scrittori de la Repubblica " o il film "Ultimo Stadio".
Nel 2003 con il suo progetto elettronico “Fire at Work” (dopo avere avuto più di dieci uscite su altre etichette elettroniche insieme a nomi come Venetian Snare, Passarani, D'Arcangelo e molti altri) fonda un'etichetta indipendente che pubblica vinili-cd-fumetti-documentari video chiamata “Stirpe 999”.

Sperimenta l'incrocio dell'elettronica con il rock più estremo fondando il gruppo “ Inferno”( con i quali ha all'attivo oltre 200 date in italia e in Europa e tre pubblicazioni).
Unisce l'elemento acustico con quello elettronico insieme al sassofonista Marcello Allulli con il quale fonda il duo di inprovvisazione “MrgReeks” ospitando nel live nomi quali Marco Siniscalco, Alex Gwiss, Paolo Damiani, Massimo Pupillo, Filippo Paolini aka Okapi, Michele Rabbia e altri nomi del jazz e dell'elettronica italiana.Con questo progetto sonorizza il documentario "Le strade in festa" dedicato al pittore Tano Festa e performano in "Sign of Sound" spettacolo di pittura e improvvisazione.

Lavora da produttore artistico dischi degli Zu, Brutopop, Truce Clan, Assalti Frontali, Ardecore e di altri gruppi dell’avanguardie Romane nel suo Hombrelobo, studio di Registrazione all’interno del Brancaleone; attualmante è impegnato nella produzione di “B for Bang” progetto di rivisitazioni di temi dei Beatles unito a brani originali con Nicola Tescari, Katia Labèque, Giovanni Sollima, David Chalmin,Viktoria Mullova, Marque Gilmore,Meg, Massimo Pupillo, Patti Smith e altri nel quale oltre ad essere suond design, ha partecipato all'arrangiamento di alcuni brani e performa dal vivo con il suo live electronics.

Con David Chalmin forma i "Red Velvet" un progetto di rock indipendente che lo vede alla batteria e alle elettroniche oltre alla produzione e registrazione del disco edito per KML RECORDINGS.

MEG

Meg (Maria Di Donna) was born in Napoli, in a family where music is an important part of the emotional and sentimental education. Her parents listen to any kind of music, and this thing, together with the study of the pianoforte since she was a child, will inevitably influence her following artistic production. In 1994 , during the national occupation of italian universities and students demonstrations, she joins the band 99 Posse. This is a real tourningpoint for her and for the band's life. So she takes part in the writing of four among the most fundamental albums of the italian avantguard music panorama ( 'Cerco tiempo', 'Corto Circuito', 'La vida que vendrà', 'NA_99_10' ). Embracing with non-chalanche the underground music moviment and the top charts at the same time. In 2001 she works with Marco Messina on the soundtrack for the theatre show of Krypton's experimental company 'Dentro la tempesta', based on 'The tempest' by William Shakespeare. The duo was called Nous. They play live the soundtrack during the shows and Meg performes in the play the role of Ariel. In 2002 the cd by Nous 'La Tempesta' was published. Throughout the years, many are the collaborations with various musicians, such as Subsonica, Tiro Mancino, Roy Paci, Pino Daniele, Speaker Cenzou, Retina.it, Technophonic Chamber Orchestra. In 2004 she gives birth to her first solo homonym album, 'Meg'. Here, she has fun in composing, writing and playing and programming, creating her own audioworld, exploring all the deep emotional parts of herself , in a fresh, experimental, 'multiformis' way. New collaborations in 2006: with ZU, Gnu Quartet and Katia Labeque. Today, 2007, she has just finished her new album co-produced with Stefano Fontana - a.k.a Stylophonic - out after summer!
